At Gameflip, we actively monitor and protect our members from scams. Nevertheless, it's an ongoing effort, and we want to enlist you to spot, avoid, and report scammers. Below is a shortlist of common scams targeting our community:
Impersonating Gameflip
This scam targets new digital sellers on Gameflip. The scam works as followed:
- The buying scammer uses the Gameflip logo as his profile avatar and profile name such as "Purchase Confirmation".
- The buying scammer then makes a comment on the seller listing, saying the item is sold and needs to be sent to XYZ account on Steam, PSN, or Xbox Live. Sometimes, the scammer also sends an email directly to the seller (if the seller discloses his email address publicly).
- Unsuspecting seller follows the scammer's instruction to send the item without verifying on Gameflip that the item was actually sold on Gameflip. Gameflip has no record of the transaction and cannot protect the unsuspecting seller.
To avoid this type of scam:
- Do not follow any instructions from Comments on your listing. "Comments are written by the marketplace users. Gameflip will never write comments on listings."
- Verify that your listing actually sold by logging into Gameflip and go to Menu > Listings > Sold tab on the website or Menu > Listings > Sold tab on iOS or Android app and follow the instructions shown from these screens, not comments from any users.
We also recommend checking other help articles under the Selling section to familiarize yourself with selling on Gameflip.
Asking to Rate first
This scam targets new digital buyers. The scam works as followed:
- The scamming seller does not deliver the item or delivered a non-working item.
- The scamming seller then asks the buyer to rate first before he delivers a working item. In rating, the buyer acknowledges the receipt and verification of the item.
- Despite the warning, the unsuspecting buyer rates the seller without receiving nor verifying the item, and the scamming seller disappears.
In this situation, Gameflip will definitely ban the seller, but the buyer is not protected by the Gameflip Guarantee.
